You’ve seen the clip. You don’t know what happened before it. You don’t know what happened after. The internet wanted it to be an outrage video. We watched the full thing.
The clip in question — a woman in a Loblaws parking lot calmly returning a shopping cart full of groceries to the store, one item at a time — went viral with no context this week. The context is mundane and a little bit lovely.
She was returning items a stranger had abandoned in the cart. The store let her keep two of them. The original poster, a teenager waiting for her dad in the next car, has since deleted the video at the woman’s request.
The lesson, if there is one: the internet really wanted this to be an outrage clip. It was just somebody being thoughtful in a parking lot.
