    Methodology

    Window: April 21 – May 12, 2026 (21 days).

Hardware: 4 × Pixel 8 handsets, each on a different Canadian SIM (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom). Handsets were assigned to Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax.

Session profile: 10 minutes of TikTok For You per handset per day, fresh accounts, no prior watch history.

Capture: Every ad screen-recorded; each app downloaded to a sandbox; every paywall walked to completion.

Verification: TikTok 'why am I seeing this?' panel used to geo-confirm each ad.

Limitations: A 100-ad, 21-day sample from four handsets is directional, not census-quality. Percentages are shares of this sample, not of TikTok Canada as a whole.

    App share of ad impressions

Six apps accounted for 73 of the 100 ads. The remaining 27 pointed to apps that pulled from Canadian app stores within seven days.
