    When you can't do this

    • The recipient has already accepted the transfer.
    • The recipient has auto-deposit enabled — the transfer completes on send with no cancel window.
    • The transfer has expired (30 days after send). Expired transfers auto-refund to your account.

How to cancel an Interac e-Transfer (by bank) — FAQ

Can I cancel an e-Transfer that's already been deposited?

No. Once the recipient accepts or auto-deposits the transfer, it's a completed payment. Your only recourse is to ask the recipient to send it back — or, if it's fraud, file a complaint with your bank and Interac.

How long do I have to cancel an e-Transfer?

As long as the transfer is still Pending — typically up to 30 days. Once the recipient accepts (or auto-deposit fires), the window closes.

Is there a fee to cancel an e-Transfer?

If the transfer is still Pending and no notification email/SMS has been sent to the recipient, most banks don't charge. If it's been notified, Stop Payment fees ~CA$[VERIFY] apply at most Big Six banks.

Can I cancel an e-Transfer request?

Yes. Cancelling a Request Money is separate from cancelling a Send: find the request in Pending Requests and tap Cancel Request. No fee applies.
