How to enable Interac auto-deposit
Auto-deposit removes the security-question step from incoming e-Transfers by linking your email or phone directly to a bank account. It's the single change most likely to reduce failed deposits and phishing exposure.
- Sign in to your bank's mobile app or online banking.
- Find the Interac e-Transfer section (usually under Transfers or Send Money).
- Choose Auto-Deposit or Register for Auto-Deposit.
- Enter the email address or phone number you want to receive transfers on.
- Pick the destination account (chequing is the default).
- Confirm the registration email Interac sends you within 24 hours — the link expires.
Interac e-Transfer FAQ
What is the Interac e-Transfer limit?
Every Canadian bank sets its own daily and rolling limits on Interac e-Transfer, capped by Interac's own network-level ceilings. [VERIFY] the exact per-transfer, daily, weekly and 30-day maximums — they vary by account tier and change without a lot of fanfare. Check the table above for the eight major Canadian banks.
What is the daily e-Transfer limit at TD, RBC or CIBC?
Daily limits at the Big Six sit in a similar band, but the exact numbers differ by bank and by account type (chequing vs. business, standard vs. premium). Every cell in the matrix above shows [VERIFY] until an editor has cross-checked the current figure with the bank directly — do not rely on it before then.
Why was my Interac e-Transfer declined?
The three usual culprits: you hit your daily or 30-day limit; the recipient's bank rejected the transfer for fraud-screening reasons; or the security question failed too many times. Auto-deposit skips the security-question failure mode entirely — see the steps below to enable it.
What is Interac auto-deposit?
Auto-deposit links your email address (or phone number) to a specific bank account so incoming e-Transfers land automatically, with no security-question step. It's the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade Interac shipped in the last decade, and it also blocks a common phishing route where a scammer intercepts the security answer.
